Is Jeet Kune Do safe?
At Jeet Kune Do Singapore, our first priority is SAFETY. Our members will not experience any contact unless our instructors approve their request to have contact based on their technical skill level, character and attitude. Only advanced students are allowed to spar under strict and careful supervision by our instructors.

Is Jeet Kune Do for women?
Most definitely, yes! In fact, one of the most talented JKD practitioners is a female (Teri Tom). For a woman, it is very empowering to know that she is capable of protecting herself and the people around her in a self-defense situation. JKD also becomes powerful knowledge that she can carry for life.

Is there a grading system in Jeet Kune Do?
Yes, there is a rank system in Jeet Kune Do, in tradition with how Bruce Lee ranked his students and instructors. All grading sessions will be personally conducted by our Sifu, Mark Stewart of International Jeet Kune Do.

How fit must I physically be to practice Jeet Kune Do?
The primary function of Jeet Kune Do, or martial art for that matter, should be to cultivate and strengthen oneself. That being said, a better question to ask would be how can practicing Jeet Kune Do make me physically and mentally stronger?

How are JKD and MMA different?
Unlike MMA, JKD is not made up of the best ingredients from multiple arts. In fact, JKD as an art consists of a very small arsenal of weapons and prides itself on simplicity and economy of motion. If we look at the most direct influences on JKD, we see the influence of boxing, fencing, and wing chun. As such, while we believe that JKD is not MMA, it is widely recognized that Bruce Lee’s departure from traditional arts and his promotion of the complete fighter more than 35 years ago was the impetus for movements such as MMA.

What do I need to bring for training?
Come in your gym attire and wear shoes. Bring an extra set of clothes, a towel and plenty of water. Relevant training equipment such as focus mitts, pads, gloves and skipping ropes will be provided. However, for sparring sessions, you will need to bring your own fighting gear.
